Andrew practises in criminal law, administrative and public law, regulatory / local government law, and family law. Andrew has appeared in all Victorian courts, the Federal Circuit Court, the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
In his criminal law practice, Andrew regularly appears in jury trials (unled), committal hearings, plea hearings and bail applications (in all courts). Andrew’s criminal law practice covers all areas of State and Commonwealth law, including Occupational Health and Safety.
Andrew also advises and appears in Confiscation Act 1997 (Vic) and the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (Cth) matters.
Andrew’s regulatory / local government practice includes advising and appearing in the Magistrates’ Court and at VCAT in matters under the Building Act 1993, Planning & Environment Act 1987, Food Act 1984, Domestic Animals Act 1994, and various local laws.
Andrew has appeared in matters before various disciplinary tribunals. He also appeared in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Andrew has appeared in judicial review matters in the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Federal Circuit Court. He regularly appears in merit review matters.
Andrew also appears and advises in all aspects of family law.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Andrew worked as a lawyer for more than 7 years, as a Senior Lawyer at Victoria Legal Aid, and as a Senior Legal Officer in the Melbourne Office of the Commonwealth DPP. In his 7 years of practice as a solicitor, Andrew was an experienced advocate, having regularly appeared in the County and Magistrates' Courts in various contested matters. He also had carriage of complex matters in all Victorian courts, both at VLA and at the CDPP.
Andrew is on the Victoria Legal Aid Preferred Trial Counsel List and holds an Indictable Crime Certificate.
