Georgina has been a member of the Victorian Bar since 1988; in active practice for 28 years.
She became an Accredited Mediator in 1995, an Advanced Mediator in 2007 and a Nationally Accredited Mediator in 2008. She previously worked as Legal Counsel in Athens, Greece and as an Associate to Justice Howard Nathan, Supreme Court of Victoria.
As a leading mediator at the Victorian Bar, Georgina has a strong practice as a mediator in civil disputes, particularly complicated probate/wills and deceased estates and a variety of general commercial disputes, including property, trusts and contractual disputes; comprising approximately 2/3’s of her practice. Georgina also has a particular interest and enjoys being retained as a barrister to advise and appear in wills, probate and deceased estate litigation; which comprises the balance of her practice. The setting is often medium or long running litigation involving complicated family farming, trusts and corporate structures of large monetary and commercial value. She is also selected as the mediator of choice or as counsel representing parties in an alternative dispute context by her fellow barristers and the Bench.
In 2013 Georgina and her colleague Richard Boaden established the Jarndyce Mediation Centre (aka Bleak House by Charles Dickens) providing their clients and the legal community in Melbourne with a purpose built mediation facility embedded in a culture of alternative dispute resolution.
Georgina is a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, the Commercial Bar Association and a Past Secretary of the Ethics Committee of the Victorian Bar. She was one of the original female practising barristers who established the Women Barristers' Association and remains a member. In the past she has been a periodic conciliator/mediator of the Legal Profession Tribunal, now part of VCAT.
From 1995 to 2015 Georgina was a board director of Brighton Grammar School, chair of the Foundation/Endowment Committee and member of the Property Committee. She has a passion for philanthropy in the field of providing educational scholarships and funding programs to support disadvantaged youth and teenage mental health initiatives.
