Kate accepts briefs across a range of criminal, regulatory and employment law matters. She appears for both defence and prosecution in criminal and regulatory matters, including victims of crime, OHS and inquests and inquiries.
She also accepts briefs in employment, IR and common law. Kate has a particular interest in assisting employers to keep workplaces free of sexual harassment and appropriately respond to complaints.
Kate’s practice is trauma informed. She is committed to working with clients and witnesses to ensure they understand the court process. Kate believes clear communication is also at the heart of providing legal advice for commercial and government clients.
Before becoming a Barrister, Kate practised for nine years as a solicitor – most recently as a Senior Solicitor at the Office of Public Prosecutions. Kate maintained a complex file load across a range of offences, including sexual offences involving children and cognitively impaired complainants, Commonwealth offences and WorkSafe matters.
In 2019, Kate was seconded to the Centre for Innovative Justice at RMIT University. Kate practised with RMIT students at the Mental Health Legal Centre and the Fitzroy Legal Service providing advice and advocacy on fines/infringements to women incarcerated at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and clients of the Collingwood Neighbourhood Justice Centre. Kate also coordinated the Innovative Justice Study Tour to New York with the Hon. Rob Hulls AM.
In 2014, Kate was Tipstaff to the Hon. Justice Julie Ward, then sitting in the NSW Court of Appeal. Kate commenced legal practice in 2012 in commercial litigation and employment law at Ashurst Australia in Canberra.
Melbourne’s Legal Precinct stands on the lands of the Wurundjeri and Boonwurrung of the Kulin Nation. Kate acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country, and pays respect to First Peoples across Australia.
