Michael Tovey worked for the Trade Practices Commission and in industrial arbitration before coming to the Bar in 1976. His practice, although varied, has focused on criminal trials and appeals. He has extensive experience in long, "white collar" trials in Victoria and Western Australia, requiring the use of computer based litigation support systems. He also appears in proceedings related to ASIC, NCA and professional misconduct investigations and in prosecutions and Coronial inquiries involving issues of Industrial Health and Safety and the culpability of providers of professional services.
He was Senior Counsel assisting the Metropolitan Ambulance Royal Commission.
Recently, a large part of his practice has been civil litigation particularly intentional torts.
