Nick was admitted to practice in Western Australia in 1992, and worked there for four years as a Solicitor Advocate with the Crown Solicitor for Western Australia, the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Youth Legal Service in Perth. He also acted as Associate to Commissioner Sir Ronald Wilson at the Royal Commission into WA Inc.
He came to Victoria in 1996, and worked as a solicitor advocate with Maddocks in its Government, Planning and Development Group before coming to the Bar in 1998.
Since coming to the bar, his practice has focused on planning, liquor and gaming law, statutory crime and administrative and governmental matters. He has considerable experience in appearing in a broad range of planning, land valuation and liquor applications at VCAT, before Advisory Committees and planning panels, and in appeals in planning and related matters before the Supreme Court. He has appeared for applicants, objectors, and local Council’s and government authorities.
Nick is also one of relatively few advocates who regularly appear at the Victorian Commission for Gaming Regulation on applications for new electronic gaming machine venues, or for increased machine numbers, and on appeals against those decisions in VCAT.
He continues to appear both for the prosecution and defence in statutory criminal prosecutions, and in administrative challenges to governmental or judicial decisions.
