Yuliya is a Barrister, practising principally in the areas of domestic criminal law and public international law, and is currently completing her PhD in international law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.


Yuliya was called to the Victorian Bar (Australia) in 2013, where Yuliya practiced in all areas of criminal law, including: offences against the person; sexual offences; family violence; drug-related offences including trafficking, cultivating and importation offences; property offences, including theft and burglary; financial offences, including fraud and ‘white collar crime’; driving and traffic offences; offences involving a corporate accused; workplace health and safety offences; and offences under the Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995 (Cth).


Yuliya has also practiced in quasi-criminal areas, including Coroners’ Court Inquests, intervention order proceedings, and victims of crime (VOCAT) applications, as well as family law and administrative law. Yuliya also has experience in commercial law including contract law and civil litigation. At the Victorian Bar, Yuliya has been awarded the Indictable Crime Certificate (ICC) and is on the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) External Junior Counsel Panel.


Yuliya read with Dr Theo Alexander and her senior mentor is Julian Burnside AO KC.


Yuliya’s experience in international criminal law includes interning at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and interning and working at the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague. Yuliya has been teaching international criminal law and public international law for several years, including coaching the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Jessup public international law moot court competitions.


Academically, Yuliya has been lecturing in law for many years in both domestic and international law. Yuliya was associate lecturer at the School of Law, Deakin University, and is currently associate lecturer at the Faculty of Law, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Yuliya has published academic articles on various areas of public international law, and regularly lectures, presents at conferences and seminars around the world in all areas of public international law.
