Launch of LACW Toolkit: Representing Pregnant Women and Mothers

This CPD marks the launch of LACW's Toolkit https://lacw.com.au/toolkit/ for Representing Pregnant Women and Mothers, authored by Laura Heffes, LACW's Director of Policy and Strategic Advocacy, with Elena Pappas, Ellen Murphy and Georgie Adeney. The Toolkit is a practical, rights-based resource for practitioners representing pregnant women and mothers who are imprisoned or at risk of imprisonment in any level of offending.
The panel session pairs the Toolkit's guidance with Dr Felicity’s Gerry’s experience of defending pregnant women and mothers women including in large-scale financial offending. The session tests that framing against trauma-informed practice, coercion and control, and the reality that a custodial sentence for a primary carer is a sentence imposed on children.
