Abhi Mukherjee specialises in medical negligence, coronial inquests, professional discipline and personal injury.
Abhi joined the Victorian Bar in 2013 after over 11 years experience as a barrister in London where he was a member of the leading UK set of chambers, Outer Temple Chambers. After arrival in Victoria, he worked for the Victoria Managed Insurance Authority (VMIA) where he was responsible for over 200 medical negligence claims.
Since joining the Victorian Bar, Abhi has been instructed in a number of serious medical negligence matters involving issues such as misdiagnosis, delayed treatment, surgical error and the wrongful application of medication.
Abhi has appeared in a number of coronial inquests. In November 2013, he appeared in an inquest before the State Coroner following the death of a patient in a gastric banding procedure. He has since appeared in inquests dealing with a psychiatric patient who died whilst on weekend leave from a psychiatric institution and a patient who died from heavy bleeding in the course of surgery.
Abhi also specialises in professional disciplinary work and was recently instructed on behalf of a general practitioner appearing before the Medical Practitioners Board of Victoria.
In his personal injury work, Abhi has dealt with a number of cases involving complex medical issues. He has been involved in Workcover and TAC matters. He has previous experience of industrial diseases including asbestosis and mesothelioma.
Abhi is available to provide CPD seminars to solicitors. He recently chaired a medical negligence seminar for Green’s List which involved a panel discussion on recent issues.
