Andrew is a Nationally Accredited Mediator.

Profile

Andrew has a broad commercial, regulatory crime, planning and building regulation, public and administrative, common law and mediation practice.

He also appears in judicial and merits reviews matters across a wide range of practice areas, before both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.

He has significant experience appearing in Royal Commissions, inquests and inquiries, both as counsel assisting and as counsel for witnesses and institutions, including:

• between 2013 and 2018, advising and appearing throughout Australia on behalf of institutions in the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse;
• in 2017, acting as counsel assisting in the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of Children in the Northern Territory;
• in 2018, advising and appearing in the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry;
• in 2018 and 2019, advising parties in the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety;
• in 2019 and 2020, acting as counsel assisting in the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants;
• in 2020, advising and appearing in the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements;
• in 2020, advising and appearing in the COVID-19 Hotel Quarantine Inquiry;
• in 2021, advising and appearing in the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability;
• in 2022, advising and appearing in the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide; and
• in 2023, acting for a witness in the Commission of Inquiry into the Tasmanian Government’s responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Institutional Settings.
• in 2026, representing a party called before the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion.

Andrew advises and appears regularly in matters involving administrative law, planning and building regulation, energy and resources, engineering and technology, contract and professional negligence.

He has been appointed to undertake sensitive investigations into allegations of misconduct and other issues in workplaces, publicly listed corporations, sporting codes, local government, educational and other institutions.

He appears in sporting tribunals. 

He is available to be briefed as a mediator in commercial, administrative and common law matters, including institutional liability cases. He regularly mediates pre-litigated disputes within partnerships and boards, and between professionals .
