Profile

Olivia has a broad practice with a focus on public law, commercial law (particularly technology law, telecommunications and IT), regulatory law, public inquiries and coronial inquests. 


Since coming to the Bar, Olivia has appeared in numerous jurisdictions in commercial and administrative law matters. In particular she has:

  • appeared unled on behalf of the Minister in Bashar v Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs [2023] FedCFamC2G 1013 (9 November 2023)
  • appeared unled on behalf of the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department in a contested public interest immunity claim in the Victorian Supreme Court
  • provided complex advice to the Information Commissioner on issues arising under the Commonwealth Privacy Act 
  • advised on and prepared submissions for an urgent injunction
  • provided advices on and appeared in matters concerning breach of contract and breaches of the Australian Consumer Law, and
  • appeared on behalf of the Office of Public Prosecutions in the Magistrates Court and the County Court.


Matters in which Olivia has particular interest include: 

  • Privacy law and data protection 
  • Telecommunications 
  • Public inquiries and coronial inquests 
  • Sensitive proceedings involving disputes about public interest immunity, client legal privilege and suppression orders; and 
  • White collar crime and Commonwealth offences particularly cybercrime, fraud, and foreign bribery. 


Olivia comes to the Bar with over ten years’ legal experience, having practiced in commercial law, criminal law, and public law. She has also developed her oral advocacy through appearing extensively across several Magistrates’ Courts in Victoria as a civil advocate. 


Prior to signing the Bar Roll, Olivia was an Assistant Director in the Cyber Affairs & Critical Technology Branch at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and prior to that she was a Senior Legal Officer in the Privacy Act Review team at the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department. Olivia began her legal career as a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills. 


Olivia is currently studying an LLM at the University of Melbourne specialising in commercial law and digital law and technological innovation. Olivia holds a Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy) and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Melbourne where she studied on a Melbourne National Scholarship. 


Olivia read with Stephen Rebikoff and her senior mentor is Richard Knowles KC. 


Olivia is a member of the Victorian Bar’s Innovation and Technology Committee as well as the Commercial Bar Association.
