Profile

Bryn Overend has a broad generalist practice, with a particular focus on public and administrative law. Key practice areas include: constitutional law, migration and citizenship law, social security law, discrimination law, human rights, professional disciplinary proceedings, and regulatory matters.  


He has extensive advocacy experience, appearing regularly across federal and state courts and tribunals, including the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART), the VCAT, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, the Federal Court of Australia, and the Supreme Court of Victoria. He has appeared unled before the Full Court of the Federal Court and the Victorian Court of Appeal.


Before coming to the Bar, Bryn was Principal Lawyer at Social Security Rights Victoria (SSRV). He also worked for several years at Victoria Legal Aid and the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency (NAAJA, formerly CAALAS), primarily in criminal law.


Bryn regularly undertakes casual academic lecturing and teaching roles, including presently teaching Constitutional Law at Monash University. Bryn also supervises Monash University law students as part of the law faculty’s Clinical Placement program.


Bryn holds a Master of Laws with Distinction (Human Rights Law) from the University of London (SOAS). He completed his undergraduate degrees in Law and Arts at Monash University.


Bryn read with Nick Wood SC, and his senior mentor was Judge John Kelly SC.
