Mathew accepts briefs across administrative, commercial, employment, consumer, and common law.

Mathew accepts briefs in common law across general torts, institutional abuse and workers compensation matters, including appearance work, advice and paperwork.

Mathew has a strong administrative law practice, appearing in judicial review matters in the Supreme Court and Federal Court. He advises and appears in judicial review of medical panel decisions. Mathew has significant expertise in immigration and refugee law.

Mathew appears in merits review and regulatory matters in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal, and disciplinary tribunals. This includes matters related to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, Mental Health and Supervision orders, and disciplinary matters. He appeared as part of the legal team for the families in the Bourke Street Coronial Inquest.

Prior to coming to the bar Mathew was a lawyer at the Consumer Action Law Centre. Off the back of that experience, Mathew has expertise in the Australian Consumer Law, the ASIC Act, and the National Credit Code. He has acted for Consumer Affairs, businesses, and consumers.

Mathew holds a Bachelors of Laws with first class honours from the Australian National University. He also holds a Masters of Law from Columbia University in New York City. His masters study focused on public law and statutory interpretation. Mathew’s public speaking experience extends beyond the courtroom. He tutored at La Trobe University in employment law, and previously worked as a stand-up comedian, winning awards for his work.
