Brett is an experienced advocate who practises in criminal and quasi-criminal law, including appellate matters.
Brett has particular expertise in complex Commonwealth crime including matters involving financial crime, drug importation, human exploitation and proceeds of crime matters.
He appears in indictable matters for both prosecution and defence in the Victorian County and Supreme Courts. Brett also maintains a trial practice in all Australian jurisdictions and regularly provides advice on trial strategy and evidentiary matters.
Brett also appears in the Court of Appeal, both for interlocutory and conviction and sentence appeals.
Before coming to the Bar, Brett was a Principal Federal Prosecutor at the Commonwealth DPP, having practiced and specialised in federal criminal prosecutions for over 10 years.
Brett was seconded to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) where he worked on a matter arising out of the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services Industry.
Brett is a member of the Legal Aid NSW indictable crime panel. He also holds an Indictable Crime Certificate and is on the Victoria Legal Aid Criminal Trial Preferred Barrister List.
