Amy Johnstone

Profile

Amy is a common law barrister, practicing primarily in personal injury matters, for both plaintiffs and defendants. She has particular expertise in medical negligence, public liability, institutional abuse, intentional torts and coronial inquiries. 

Amy regularly appears in the Supreme Court and County Court of Victoria, both as junior counsel and unled. She has a strong practice in interlocutory applications including written submissions and hearings in respect to privilege, discovery, interrogatories and other interlocutory disputes. She also appears unled in coronial inquests.

Prior to joining the Bar, Amy spent a decade working as a lawyer with the medical negligence team at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. During this time Amy acted for plaintiffs in litigated matters of all sizes and complexities, including speedy trials. 

In 2021, Amy was accredited by the Law Institute of Victoria as a Specialist in Personal Injury Law.

Amy holds a Juris Doctor (Laws) from Monash University. She also has a Bachelor of Social Work (Hons) and Masters in Social Science (Policy and Human Services) from RMIT.
