Kahlia has a broad commercial law practice, with particular expertise in building and construction, security of payment, property law and regulatory matters.


She is regularly briefed to advise on, and appear in, matters involving:


  • the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2002 (Vic) (and equivalent legislation in other jurisdictions);
  • defective building works (on behalf of both homeowners and builders);
  • delay and disruption claims (on behalf of both the contractor and the principal);
  • issues under the Domestic Building Contracts Acts 1995 (Vic) and the Building Act 1993 (Vic);
  • owners corporation issues;
  • unreasonable flows of water under the Water Act 1989 (Vic);
  • the Australian Consumer Law;
  • the sale of land;
  • easements;
  • restrictive covenants;
  • caveats and priority disputes; and
  • fencing disputes.


Kahlia’s commercial practice also includes other contractual and commercial disputes, including breach of contract claims and debt recovery matters.


Kahlia is also regularly briefed by the Victorian Building Authority to prosecute offences under the Building Act 1993 (Vic).


Prior to coming to the Bar, Kahlia was Senior Legal Counsel at a leading energy infrastructure construction company, where she worked mostly on large infrastructure matters.


Kahlia holds a Bachelor of Arts and Laws from Monash University and a Master of Laws from Melbourne University. She read with Dr Kylie Weston-Scheuber and her senior mentor was Gabi Crafti SC.
