Profile

Ella has a broad practice in criminal law and common law.

Criminal Law

Ella is regularly briefed to appear in contested matters in the Magistrates' and Children's Court.

Ella appears unled in the County Court and Supreme Court in Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act (CMIA) matters.

Ella appears as junior counsel in complex and serious indictable criminal matters.

Before coming to the Bar, Ella was a lawyer in Victoria Legal Aid’s Youth Crime team.

Common Law

Ella’s common law practice extends across all personal injury matters, including police torts, WorkCover/TAC, medical negligence and institutional abuse matters.

She is particularly interested in the intersection between medicine and the law, including coronial inquests.

Before coming to the Bar, Ella worked as a solicitor at a large plaintiff personal injury firm, practising primarily in Workers Compensation matters.

She has worked and volunteered at community legal centres, most notably in respect to appeals of NDIA decisions at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (now the ART).

During her Arts/Law degree at Monash University, Ella completed part of her Human Rights major at Carleton University in Canada.

Ella read with Stella Gold SC and Paul Smallwood. Her Senior Mentor is Michael Stanton SC.
