Profile

Neil is a highly experienced Senior Counsel with over 30 years of legal practice across multiple Australian jurisdictions, including Victoria, New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory. He practices in all areas of Criminal Law, Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) matters, coronial inquests, professional disciplinary tribunals, and Royal Commissions.

Neil has appeared extensively as lead counsel in complex Supreme Court trials, County Court Trials, and appeals before the Court of Appeal.

Throughout his distinguished career, Neil has acted for both the defence and the Crown. He served as a New South Wales Crown Prosecutor for eight years, including in the role of Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutor, appearing in criminal trials and in the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal. Prior to that, he spent four years retained as in-house Counsel at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions, appearing regularly in both trial and appellate courts in Melbourne and Sydney.

He appears as lead counsel in Victoria Legal Aid’s Trial Counsel Development Program, mentoring emerging barristers through complex criminal trials.
