Kathryn St. John

Profile

Admitted to practise in Australia (in both federal and Victorian jurisdictions) and England and Wales, Kathryn has experience across multiple jurisdictions and in matters with an international dimension. She has expertise in commercial law, financial services, insolvency and trusts, equity and probate.

Prior to entering private practice, Kathryn served as Associate to Justice McMillan at the Supreme Court of Victoria. In that role, she gained extensive experience of matters in the Trusts, Equity and Probate List, as well as the Testators Family Maintenance List, together with valuable insight into judicial decision-making and the management of complex proceedings.

Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours in Economics) from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from University College London. She has lectured at the university level, served as a head tutor at the University of Melbourne and co-authored a book chapter. Her research has been published in leading law and economics journals and she has presented at international conferences.

While studying the Bar Practical Training Course in London, Kathryn received the Academic Excellence Scholarship and the Advocacy Scholarship from BPP University, as well as the Patrick Back Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn.

Kathryn was called to the Bar of England and Wales as a member of Gray’s Inn and completed pupillage at a leading commercial chancery chambers in London.

Kathryn is a member of the Contentious Trusts Association (ConTrA) and an Affiliate Member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). 

Kathryn’s mentor is Raini Zambelli and her senior mentor is Simon Pitt KC.
