Greens List Readers sign the Bar Roll - October 2021

Greens List congratulates our newest Barristers, who last night signed the Bar Roll.

Joseph Acutt

Having graduated from the University of Queensland in 2012 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in political science), Joseph obtained a graduate position with McInnes Wilson Lawyers. He was admitted as a solicitor in February 2014. From that time until July 2016, Joseph worked as a solicitor at the firm's Brisbane office in the plaintiff litigation team, working primarily in personal injuries, property damage and TPD claims. Joseph moved to Melbourne in 2016 and obtained a legal position at the Supreme Court, working with Justice J Forrest managing the Proceeds of Crime and Confiscations List. Since June 2019, Joseph has been employed as the senior lawyer in the Supreme Court's Trust, Equity and Probate team. In this capacity Joseph has led a team of lawyers assisting Justice McMillan, Justice Moore and Judicial Registrar Keith with a wide range of proceedings dealing with trusts, superannuation funds and deceased estates. Outside of work Joseph enjoys playing cricket, (touch) rugby and generally spending time outdoors.

Nussen Ainsworth

Nussen qualified as a solicitor in 2012 and practised in commercial litigation. As a legal academic, he has taught in and published on mediation, arbitration, family law and legal education.

Nussen has been a LIV Accredited Specialist in Mediation since 2016 and FDRP since 2010 and has acted as a mediator in over 300 matters. Nussen was appointed to the ADR committees of the Law Institute of Victoria (2012), Magistrates’ Court (2015) and Law Council of Australia (2020).

Kate Ottrey

Kate comes to the Bar with nine years’ experience as a solicitor – most recently at the Office of Public Prosecutions. She has appeared and instructed in summary and indictable criminal proceedings, including sexual offences, Commonwealth offences and WorkSafe matters. Kate has also worked with Community Legal Centres advising vulnerable clients regarding infringements. Kate was previously Tipstaff to the Hon. Justice Ward in the NSW Court for Appeal and practised commercial litigation and employment law at Ashurst Australia in Canberra. Kate accepts briefs in criminal, quasi-criminal, OHS, employment and common law.

Bryn Overend

Currently working as a solicitor advocate, Bryn is the former Principal Lawyer at Social Security Rights Victoria, specialising in social security law and advocacy. Prior to practicing at SSRV, Bryn worked at Victoria Legal Aid where he practiced in summary crime, criminal appeals, and mental health. Bryn has also previously lived in Alice Springs practicing in criminal law at the Central Australian Aboriginal Legal Aid Service (now NAAJA).

Winnie Wong

Winnie practices in commercial and administrative law, specialising in taxation. Before coming to the Bar, Winnie was a Senior Associate in Clayton Utz’s taxation practice and has advised on various federal and state tax disputes. She has advised on a number of complex income tax issues involving individual and corporate tax residency, application of double tax treaties, capital gains tax (CGT) rules for individuals, trusts and companies, application of Division 7A and the general anti-avoidance rules.
