George Baker was for many years a solicitor in the city, as a sole practitioner and then with a mid tier city firm. He came to the Bar in 2001 and since that time has practised extensively, and nearly exclusively, in the Supreme and County Courts in matters relating to deceased estates, arising from challenges to the actual will itself, or in Part IV matters, be it for the claimant or the estate.
He acted successfully for a daughter-in-law and several grandchildren who had been cut out of the will upon the death of the husband/father who was a child of the deceased (this being the first time that a grandchild’s application was successful).
He also practises in matters relating to property, see for example Tonks v Tonks VSC 195.which related to the interpretation of a restrictive covenant.
He is proactive in the handling of cases, both for plaintiffs and estates always with the objective of reaching the best possible outcome for his client whether by negotiation or running a matter through to trial.
