Yuliya Mik is an experienced advocate and practices in both Australian and international law.
Yuliya accepts briefs in criminal and administrative law, including quasi-criminal areas, such as coronial inquests, offences involving a corporate accused, and workplace health and safety offences. She also appears in family law matters (property and parenting, including in particular international family law matters) and intervention order proceedings.
Yuliya practices in all areas of criminal law, including offences against the person, family violence, drug-related offences, property offences, financial offences including fraud and ‘white collar crime’, sexual offences, driving and traffic offences, and offences under the Commonwealth Criminal Code 1995 (Cth).
Yuliya is experienced in international commercial arbitration matters and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
Yuliya is also experienced in all areas of public international law, including in particular international criminal law. Yuliya’s experience in international criminal law includes working at the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague and interning at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Academically, Yuliya has been lecturing in both Australian and international law for many years, and regularly judges international law moot court competitions. Yuliya was associate lecturer at the Faculty of Law, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the School of Law, Deakin University. She has published academic articles on various areas of public international law. Yuliya regularly lectures and presents at conferences and seminars around the world in all areas of public international law. Yuliya is currently completing her PhD in international law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Yuliya is also admitted to the Bar of England and Wales.
