Profile

Bryony has a dynamic practice spanning criminal law, regulatory and administrative law, and torts against public authorities. She is regularly briefed as junior counsel in complex litigation and also appears unled in final hearings and contested cases.

Bryony appears as defence counsel in both summary and indictable matters. She has particular expertise in disciplinary proceedings involving healthcare professionals and in regulatory prosecutions, including offences under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1986 (Vic) and the Environmental Protection Act 2017 (Vic). She also appears in proceedings under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 (Vic).

Bryony maintains a strong practice in judicial review and appeals, in both federal and state jurisdictions. She has appeared in the Northern Territory Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Victoria, and the Federal Court of Australia (led and unled). She also represents clients in merits review proceedings before the Administrative Review Tribunal.

Before coming to the Bar, Bryony practised predominantly as a solicitor advocate in criminal defence. She served as Associate to the Honourable Justice Quigley at the Supreme Court of Victoria during her Honour’s tenure as President of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Immediately prior to signing the Bar roll, she worked as a Criminal Division Lawyer at the County Court of Victoria, managing complex criminal trials across the state.

An active member of the Bar, Bryony serves on the Victorian Bar’s New Barristers Committee and is the Victorian Bar’s representative on the Law Council of Australia’s Young Lawyers Committee.

She is a member of Koiki Mabo Chambers in Melbourne and Mindil Chambers in Darwin.
