Shannon Finegan is an experienced barrister, practising in a broad range of civil and administrative jurisdictions. She has a versatile generalist practice with a focus on:

• Costs law – advising and appearing in costs disputes at all levels
• Coroners Court – appearing in inquests and inquiries, with a strong focus on systemic healthcare issues and prevention opportunities.
• Migration law – representing refugees and visa applicants in ART merits review and all levels of judicial appeal.
• Comcare – advising and appearing in matters under the Commonwealth statutory regime.
• Guardianship and administration – appearing in VCAT in complex matters involving financial management and decision-making capacity.

Shannon also accepts briefs in children's law, employment law, commercial law and all areas of administrative law.

Shannon is a culturally attuned advocate, experienced and committed to providing sensitive legal advice to clients from diverse backgrounds. She has a strong interest in social justice and human rights, particularly in migration and healthcare-related matters.

Before coming to the Bar, Shannon was Associate to Judicial Registrars Burchell and Tran (as they were) at the County Court of Victoria, gaining extensive experience in civil litigation, interlocutory matters, and judicial resolution conferences. In addition, she has taught evidence law at Deakin University.

Shannon previously worked as a Registered Nurse (2007–2020) and holds graduate and postgraduate qualifications in nursing. She has extensive clinical experience in metropolitan and rural healthcare, including renal nursing in the remote Northern Territory. Her thorough understanding of medical systems, disease pathology, and pharmacology informs her advocacy, particularly in coronial and healthcare-related matters.
