Profile

Rebecca practices in common law and personal injury class action with a particular interest in health focused matters. She practices in a variety of other areas intersceting with health.

Rebecca has a diverse background spanning government, legal, clinical and public health settings. Rebecca brings a multidisciplinary and pragmatic approach to legal practice. She brings a nuanced understanding of the intersection of health, law and ethics, particularly in relation to complex and technical matters.

She is Reading with Peter Hamilton and her Senior Mentor is Dr Ian Freckleton AO KC.

Rebecca accepts briefs to appear and advise across areas including:

Common law:

·      Medical negligence and personal injury including institutional abuse, forced adoption and police torts

·      Matters involving the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 or guardianship

·      Professional regulation and disciplinary proceedings including matters involving regulation of registered and non-registered health practitioners

Government:

·      Public law including Royal Commissions and Inquiries

·      Coronial matters

·      Government and statutory authorities

Commercial:

·      Trusts law

Quasi-criminal law:

·      Therapeutic courts and matters involving the CMIA

Rebecca is also currently involved in a number of class actions. 

Rebecca is a Teaching Associate at Monash University in the Juris Doctor, previously in the LLB in trusts law, litigation and dispute resolution and criminal law.

Prior to joining the Bar, Rebecca advised the Health Complaints Commissioner. She also advised Australian jurisdictions on reforms regarding the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme including the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law 2009.

Rebecca has worked for a hospital carrying out clinical incident investigations and mortality reviews. She maintains her registration as a Registered Nurse, practicing in Emergency Psychiatry.
