Rachelle practices across criminal, quasi criminal, family, and public and administrative law matters. She also accepts briefs in Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act, coronial inquests and regulatory matters.
Prior to coming to the bar, Rachelle was a solicitor advocate at Victoria Legal Aid, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service and in private practice. In these roles, Rachelle appeared regularly in Magistrate and County Courts in both the summary and indictable stream. Rachelle has experience appearing in pleas, bail applications, contest mentions and appeals and had carriage of a range of matters including property, drug, dishonesty, driving, sex and violence (including family violence) related offences. At the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service, Rachelle regularly appeared on behalf of First Nations clients in metropolitan and regional Magistrates’ Courts and Koori Courts.
Rachelle was Associate to Her Honour Judge Karapanagiotidis in the County Court of Victoria. In this role, she gained extensive experience in jury trials, pre-trial hearings and matters of admissibility.
Rachelle holds an honours degree in Law and Arts from Monash University, majoring in Criminology and minoring in Sociology.
Rachelle is reading with Rahmin de Kretser and her senior mentor is Theo Kassimatis KC.
Rachelle speaks fluent Russian.
