Alex Wolf

Profile

Alex practises across criminal and administrative law. He accepts briefs to appear and advise in criminal and appellate matters across all metropolitan and regional courts.

Alex also accepts briefs in quasi-criminal, regulatory, disciplinary, public law and inquest matters.

Alex started his career practicing as a criminal defence solicitor-advocate, which included managing a wide variety of indictable and summary matters. In this role, he appeared regularly in the Magistrates’ Court and County Court for contested bail applications, plea hearings and appeals. Alex has also instructed in trials involving serious indictable offences.

Prior to joining the Victorian Bar, Alex was the Director of the Criminal Division of the County Court where he provided strategic, procedural and policy advice to the Chief Judge and the Head of the Criminal Division. This included the implementation of significant legislative reforms to committals and to bail.

During his time at the County Court, Alex was also the Manager of Law Reform and Policy and the Senior Criminal Researcher, where he was responsible for preparing the Court’s submissions on proposed legislative change and provided legal advice to judges and staff on diverse areas of criminal law.

While at the County Court, Alex was a member of the Judicial CPD Committee presenting to the judges of the County Court on topics including recent developments in the Court of Appeal. He was also a member of the County Court Criminal Rules Committee and Koori Court Self-Determination Working Group.
